Trans-mutation (Transmutations) – Exposition

10 octobre 2013, 13 h 00 min - 13 octobre 2013, 17 h 00 min

[english below]

When I conceived the “Abode of Chaos” (today managed by the OrgAn Museum) the primary concepts underpinning its development came from Alchemy, a philosophy that has crossed both time and civilisations. Alchemy is a spiritual path
a path of awareness and of transformation
that obeys natural laws and a specific doctrine related to the Art of Transmutation. “The Royal Art that reflects divine nature in its primary principles”.

In the second volume of his Philosophical Abodes – a work that was an initiatory experience for me in 1985 – my old master Fulcanelli says “Having obtained the delectable purple product, we can move on to the creation of the so-called Projection Purple, a catalyst of miraculous Transmutations of waste materials into noble materials!” It was therefore natural that a “correspondence” in the Baudelairian sense as a veritable poetic art (i.e. the formulation of an aesthetic project at the same time as its illustration by example) should be entrusted to Rodolphe Bessey.

In esotericism, the Egregor that Rodolphe talks about is a concept that signifies a collective spirit, a force produced and influenced by the desires and emotions of several individuals united by a common goal. This vital force then functions as an autonomous entity. The term Egregor, first used within hermetist traditions, was picked up by the surrealists who added a much more subversive dimension to it. Egregor represents indeed the most natural definition of the Trans-mutation exhibition at the heart of the alchemistic crucible of the Abode of Chaos, with its 9 Carriers of Light (artists) who enlighten us with their works born from Materia Prima.
thierry Ehrmann, Plasticien, Author of the Abode of Chaos / Demeure du Chaos (1999)

The exhibition Trans-mutation is the fruit of several encounters and reflects a meeting of minds and a merger of common themes. This show reflects a subtle combination of connections, interactions between mentors and an extraordinary period of gestation.
We invited nine artists, all singular and complementary, with remarkable elemental energy; they will come to express themselves from a broad spectrum of perspectives, testifying of a previous future, with their modernity and their specificities.
A bridge between traditional techniques and possible futures. Alchemical works, reminiscences of post-humanity, echoes of the near future, anticipations of the essence, but also relics of forgotten eras or even stellar artefacts.
Art is not a belief; it is a poem of the soul. It is a simple, powerful and well-established act and reality
far from the pretentious torments of those who believe they have mastered the secrets.
I trust art and its elucidating capacity. I favour the collective to achieve greater heights and cover larger distances. A tangible poetry, a pensée du tremblement or thought of trembling, as Edouard Glissant said.
Mystical and magical, the ark of time embarks the artists and their works in the bright and blinding maelstrom of the Abode of Chaos. The MusĂ©e L’Organe embodies a particle accelerator, both artistic and TRANS-MUTANT.
For thierry Ehrmann, wherever a collective forms, defined by its individuals, the result is an Egregore.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/scarfos/

Born on December 14, 1971 in Lyon.
He lives and works in Lyon.

Metallic throes, human drive and mineral deities.

Scarfos does not hesitate to dive deep into the abyss to uncover a new biomechanical branch of the tree of life, a vast, all-embracing web beaming with steely glare. Totems of a new dark age, his metal sculptures ride dystopian promises. Cruel entities warning us from the devastating imagination of a mankind gnawed at by the merciless mandibles of the laws of physics and the revelation of an inevitable fate.

Born on December 17, 1980 in Paris.
She lives and works in Lyon.

Carnal revelations, saponaceous tenderness and sensuality.

Marjolaine Larrivé (SecrÚtes Savonnettes) sculpts and unveils objects of desire. Lightness of tone, formal classicism and delicately handled subjects, her soap bars conjure up moist bodies, seaside mists and freshly scrubbed skins. A collection of square, oval or oblong cameos as a series of bas-reliefs evoking the most noble materials, ivory or alabaster. Her work is an attempt to reach out to the viewer by gently settling eroticism in the visible, daily sphere.

BULLITT BALLABENI

Born September 11th, 1978, in DĂ©cines-Charpieu.
He lives and works in Lyon.

Mythical thought, mysteries and raw material.

Bullit Ballabeni parches, refines, manoeuvres and transforms. From a matrix-like magma, heavy with information, he provides structure and hierarchy to the elements to offer them a new position. The metal parts of his sculptures bend and tear to accommodate animals and vegetals. From his first steps in a wrought-iron workshop to tattooing and urban art, his work outlines the topography of a new arch of the covenant that is warm and dissenting, eccentric and, however, comforting.

RODOLPHE BESSEY

http://www.rodolphebessey.com/

Born on March 13, 1977 in Lyon.
He lives and works in Lyon.

Strange artefacts, magical seals and hints of a past future.

Rodolphe Bessey’s visual art calls us through parallel dimensions, a norm defying, magical universe. Photograms or holograms, his work subtlyrevolves around notions such as impression and reminiscence, to the point where it reaches the boundary between art and science as in his collaboration with Thomas Garrigues and the department of digital anatomy of the medicine school of the UniversitĂ© des Saints PĂšres, Paris-Descartes.

DAVID DECAMP

http://daviddecamp.free.fr/

Born on October , 1970 in Bourg-en-Bresse.
He lives and works in Lyon.

Rupestral rituals, traces and stele scraping.

David DĂ©camp draws inspiration for his paintings and sculptures from the rough and unspoilt land of Jura, where he spent his childhood. An unchanging territory where those with an educated eye can still identify animal prints carved in stones, footsteps from believers who wore out the steps of ancient churches. A work rooted amidst the shadows, at the heart of the primary forest, on the cusp of the original secret. A work meant to keep rawness and violence away from life, along with everything that could threaten or weaken it, protecting what makes it unique and precious.

ROMAIN LARDANCHET

http://romainlardanchet.com/

Born December 26th, 1977, in Villeurbanne.
He lives and works in Lyon.
Child’s dreams, metal skeletons and electronic conscience.
Romain Lardanchet devotes most of his drawings and sculptures to the artificial creatures that cradled him in his youth. His work displays a particular fondness for Japanese animated films of the eighties and the transformations of extraterrestrial robots. Each of his sculpture is therefore created from the parts of common household manufactured products of varying size. Those products are then disassembled and transformed, to gain their new prospective and futuristic incarnation.

PIERRE CITRON

Born on May 30, 1971 in Lyon.
He lives and works in Marseille.

Inner universe, gentle chaos and sublimation

Pierre Fontanier, self-proclaimed « Citron » (lemon) offers his raw, disenchanted and melancholic vision. Through his pen, he strives to conjure death, sex and cruelty, the degradation of a human condition. Doomed, the viewer wanders through the fantastical shapes of his drawings and paintings where Man is no longer really Man, merging with animals, skeleton and machinery. A chaotic universe from which arises, however, a mastery of depiction and a profound desire for expression.

http://www.helenelagnieu.fr/

Born August 15th, 1958, in Nantua.
She lives and works in Bron.
Hybrid creatures, chimera and physiological experiments.

Born on August 15, 1958, in Nantua.
She lives and works in Bron.

Hybrid creatures, chimera and physiological experiments.

HĂ©lĂšne Lagnieu focuses her paintings and sculptures on the processes of hybridation, uncovering and decorticating human and animal anatomy. Interlacings of acrylic paintings and paper sculptures result from guts and butcher’s knives of eviscerated remembrance of her childhood in the wild Bugey. Her rummaging through the fleshing recalls entering a baroque purgatory where the status of women is dissected and gives birth to a personal mythology.

JULIEN SALAUD

http://julien-salaud.info/

Born March 5th, 1977, in Paris
He lives and works in Orléans

Shamanism, animality and survival of the species.

Throughout his work Julien Salaud questions the links, forces and symbolism uniting Man to nature. Illuminations, embroidery, ornament or beadworks, his works make up a magical bestiary that will help us face the return of a mighty and mysterious animal kingdom. All are irruptions of a collective consciousness, that participate in a balance of the depictions of life and death, revealed here in fantastical shapes.
